Subconscious Sabotage

Yes, I have a self imposed deadline looming over me. I plan to get to the third book, don't get me wrong… I've just hit a little side track lately.

First, in early September I started an advertising campaign and did a revamping of my Facebook business page. The books were selling like hot cakes and I knew I had to make things more professional looking if I wanted to grow off the exposure.

The Facebook changes and advertising were prompted by an upcoming virtual book tour. I did an extensive month long blog tour in mid-September organized by Roxanne Rhoads' awesome company, Bewitching Book Tours.  The tour was great! I met a lot of terrific readers and learned a valuable lesson -- plan ahead with all the blog posts. By the end of the month I wanted to poke my eyes out trying to write another witty and/or interesting guest post. So I was writing… just not on my third book.

Health wise I had some set backs and learned my treatment is going to go on longer than I thought. Six months ago I thought I was nearing an end, but some latest test results put a kabash on that. Moving on, no need to dwell on the depressing stuff.

Next, I fumbled with writing and publishing stuff and basically felt like I was floundering for days. Finding direction and sticking to it seems to be the hardest thing for me lately. Having an active family and kids with obligations, schoolwork, and extensive social lives certainly doesn't help!

I've refocused my efforts on my health so that we can hopefully end the skyrocketing medical bills soon. I'm working out regularly (yes, try not to be too shocked), I'm keeping up on the house, and cooking almost every day. This is *huge* for a person who had a hard time walking a few months ago. The muscle aches aren't gone, and some days suck, but overall it's getting better.

I started chapter two this week and I'm pleased with the results. I plan on writing over the weekend and getting my mind focused back on the storyline so I can start churning out words again. Is this writer's block I'm experiencing? My good friend Marissa told me that writer's block is simply anything that keeps you form putting words on the page. I don't know. I do know I've been reluctant to start and hesitant to get going with it… and for the life of me I can't figure out why.

The past two days I did my last "oh, I need to do this" project regarding my work. I updated my website and the layout of this blog. Now they all tie in to the series and hopefully look more cohesive and professional. Secretly, I think this was all a subconscious mental delay tactic to not actually writing… but, I did it and now it can no longer weigh on me.

There are so many things I want to write -- a how-to book for writers, my kids' fantasy book, a gluten free family guide, erotica shorts and sex toy reviews (yes, remember those?!?), and my V V Inn series. It's never been lack of ideas that was my problem. Right now, it seems all the ideas are weighing me down and confusing me on where to focus!

I know what I need to do. I need to sit my ass down and write. No complaining. No whining, just do it.

I'll keep you all posted. I've missed blogging on this personal blog. It's a nice release to gather my thoughts and not feel like I have to be super woman all the time. Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
C.J.

See? Not Talkin' Out My Ass!

About this blog:

"Who the heck is this C.J. chick?"

Sure, you may not have heard of me and that's okay. I may not have heard of you either ;-) But ask yourself this one simple question -- What were you doing in January 2009 and had you ever written one word of fiction?

I can tell you where I was and what I was doing. I spent days in doctor's offices and sitting at home the rest of the time, wondering what I was going to do with my time now that my property management and Realtor business was on hold for the foreseeable future.

That's right, I never wrote a fictional piece before and I never thought I could be a writer. My background is Art, Chemistry and Business… not English, Journalism, or Creative Writing.

Now, I'm an award-winning bestselling author of contemporary fantasy. In under three years. And I have 10,000 followers on facebook. Do you? 'Cause if you do then you probably don't need my help. ;-)

Side Note: I use an editor for all my books (several in fact), but not on my blog posts. So if you see errors, try to be nice and overlook them.

Please comment on the posts you find helpful -- I look forward to getting to know you!
